Mathematics and Programming
Before a calculation can tell us anything useful, we need to understand what the numbers represent. We will start with small examples and learn how to express calculations in Python. You can follow these sections in order or return to a particular idea when you need it.
Build the foundations
- Introductory MathematicsMachine learning uses mathematics to describe data, make predictions, and improve those predictions. Those calculations are much easier to follow when we understand what they are doing. We will work through statistics, linear algebra, and calculus from small examples, so you don't need to arrive with that background.5 lessons
- Python and NumPyThe courses use Python and NumPy to turn the ideas into calculations we can inspect. We will begin with a few greenhouse readings, learn how to store and select them, then work through array shapes, summaries, matrix calculations, and numerical checks. We will also make the code reusable and keep enough of each experiment to run it again. The examples and challenges run here in the browser.14 lessons
